What Do You Need to Bring to Nijmegen?
The question regarding equipment is perhaps the most common one we receive, and the list below contains the things that are not issued by the Pori Brigade.
- A pair of GOOD marching boots (and possibly a spare pair)
- Underwear suitable for marching in high summer weather
- Socks and liner socks
- Sandals or Crocs
- Hydration bladder
- Petroleum jelly (Vaseline), sunscreen, and possibly tape for your feet
- Sleeping bag
- Civilian clothes
- Passport
- Hygiene bag (soap, toothpaste, etc.) as well as a towel
That is actually all you need to provide yourself. But then there are the items you are issued, which are listed below.
- Two (2) uniform jackets
- Two (2) uniform trousers
- Belt
- Four (4) technical T-shirts
- Peaked cap
- Boonie Hat (Seikkailuhattu)
- Backpack
More than this is not needed, but there are, of course, “Nice-to-have” items.
- Power bank + USB cables
- Sheets (for the mattress)
- Inflatable pillow
- Flashlight
- Knife
- Duct tape (Jesustejp/Silver tape)
- Medicine pack (pain relievers, zinc paste, plasters, compresses…)
- Beret
- Earplugs
- Sunglasses
- Cash
- Ziploc bags (Minigrippåsar)
What you actually need is very individual, and for my part, I have reduced what I bring. Partly because it wasn’t needed, but also because I don’t want to lose a lot of things.
Separate posts will follow later regarding major items such as boots and socks. The former seems to be able to create almost a lynching atmosphere among participants. That discussion can be summarized as: it is up to each individual.
